With sedation dentistry you can regain your health and have the fabulous smile you always wanted.

Each patient is unique, which is why Dr. Ufberg is trained to provide a myriad of protocols to meet your individual needs. That means that whatever medications you may be taking, dental treatments needed, or the years away from the dentist – there is a safe and effective way to get the smile you’ve always wanted.

Sedatives are given to patients in a variety of ways, including by mouth, under the tongue, inhaled through the nose, or administered intravenously (through the veins). The vast majority of those receiving sedation within a dental office will take the medication orally. In fact, millions of oral sedatives are prescribed by doctors every single day.
Do you just need the edge off? Nitrous oxide is an odorless and colorless gas that dentistry has relied upon since 1844.
Nitrous oxide sedation falls within the mildest category of sedation. Patients may feel tingling or a sense of well-being, however, they remain alert. Once inhalation is discontinued the effects also end, often within seconds.
Nitrous oxide sedation carries few if any side effects and produces no known allergic response. For these reasons, it makes a nearly ideal form of anxiety relief in the contemporary dental office.
Patients love the benefits of oral sedation. You are responsive the whole time so you can answer questions and open wide! What patients like most, is the amnesia effect. You simply don’t remember the sights and sounds that come with a visit to the dentist. In fact, hours seem like minutes. The teams at our offices take very good care of you too! You’re never left alone and all of your needs are met.

Dr. Ufberg uses well established and proven oral sedation protocols customized to meet your needs. The goal is to make you totally comfortable, while keeping you safe for the best dental visit you’ll ever have.
You may have heard oral sedation referred to as “relaxation,” “sleep” or “anxiety-free” dentistry. It’s quickly becoming the standard of care in dental practices everywhere.
People used to think IV was the only form of sedation. A benefit of IV sedation is the faster onset of the sedative medications, meaning you’ll be able to feel the effects more quickly. For those patients with a fear of needles, IV sedation may not be appropriate unless an oral sedative is provided before the appointment.
All in all, you have options!
Many patients find that sedation helps them to have a more positive experience at the dentist, even if they do not suffer from dental anxiety. If you gag easily or if your teeth are extremely sensitive, being sedated may make it easier for you to be treated. Some patients may also like to receive a sedative if they are having multiple cavities filled or are undergoing a long procedure such as deep gum cleaning.
IV sedation is available for virtually any procedure you might need to undergo at your dentist’s office, from oral surgery to routine examinations and cleanings. Sedation is safe for most patients, but your dentist will check your medical history and any medications you’re currently taking to make sure that it’s the right choice for you.
Even if you don’t suffer from any anxiety about the dentist’s office, sedation can still be valuable to you. If you have a strong gag reflex, sedation can help ensure that you stay comfortable while you are being treated by your dentist. Sedation can also be helpful for restless patients who need to have a lot of dental work done in a single visit. Sedation can even be used in combination with anesthesia to ensure that you remain totally calm and free of pain during any procedure.
Most patients have little to no memory of their dental treatment. This is one of the reasons that patients love IV sedation dentistry.
Most patients have no trouble with IV sedation but prior to starting any treatment, we review your medical history. During treatment, we also monitor you very closely.
Following treatment, you will feel fine. But for your safety, we do require that you have a family member or friend drive you home.
